Equine Hydrotherapy ECB Spa in Durham, Tyne and Wear

The East Durham Equine hydrotherapy spa uses chilled cold salt water which reduces limb inflammation which can occur with traditional techniques. The salt water promotes healing and massages your horse’s legs, stimulating blood flow and cleansing open wounds. We use the ECB Equine Cold Salt Hydrotherapy Spa designed specifically for horses at our livery in County Durham.

Using this innovative technology we can treat:

  •          Tendon and ligament swelling or injury
  •          Laminitis
  •          Joint conditions
  •          Fractures and splints
  •          Foot abscess
  •          Promotes healing of wounds
  •          Increases hoof growth
  •          Ideal for post eventing / maintenance for competition horses

Cold salt hydrotherapy for horses is used to prevent and treat injuries in salt water at 2-4 degrees centigrade. A drug free therapy that gets results from injury prevention to increase in mobility. The spa has sucessfully addressed virtually all lower leg injuries. Treatment temperature alone induces a massive rush of blood and circulation which otherwise would not be present. The solution at 2 degrees centigrade provides analgesic pain management and inhibits enzme degeneration of tendons post injury.

The ECB salt solution acts as a hypertonic poultice, reducing heat while having a natural healing effect on wounds. Water density increases with salt concentration, which in turn increases pressure to aid fluid and waste dispersal.

Water aeration has a massaging effect on the leg and increases the dissolved oxygen content of the spa solution.
